Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz comfortably sealed his spot in the Madrid Open quarterfinals after a sensational win over Alexander Zverev while both second-seeded Daniil Medvedev and fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev lost their fourth-round matches at the clay-court tournament.

Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz drove past Alexander Zverev by 6-1, 6-2 to secure his spot in the Madrid Open quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz has won 18 consecutive matches in Spanish clay-court tournaments – winning consecutive Barcelona titles and last year's event in Madrid.

In the quarterfinal clash, 19-year-old Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz will face Russian 10th seed, Karen Khachanov, who stunned fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev by 7-6 (10-8) 6-4.

On the other hand, Russian Aslan Karatsev cruised past second-seeded Daniil Medvedev by 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 and will face Chinese history-maker Zhang Zhizhen next.
