Italian boxer Angela Carini, who left her Olympic match against Algeria's Imane Khelif just 46 seconds in, has expressed a desire to apologize to Khelif for her actions following the fight.
Imane Khelif, despite being disqualified from last year's Women's World Championships for eligibility issues, has been cleared to compete in women's boxing at the Paris Games.
The controversy surrounding her participation led the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to defend her right to compete.
Italian boxer Angela Carini, who left their match early, expressed regret for her actions and for not shaking hands with Khelif afterward.
Carini, also 25, told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport that while she respects the IOC's decision, the situation has made her sad.
