Alan Browne, midfielder for the Republic of Ireland, feels his team lacks a "world-class" player who could help turn their fortunes around.
Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Greece in the UEFA Nations League marked their fourth consecutive competitive home defeat. They’ve won just three of their last 15 matches, with two of those victories against the lesser team Gibraltar.
Sunderland's Alan Browne noted, "We lack that standout Premier League quality player who could change the game. We have players in the Premier League, but none who are world-class and can be relied on to win matches."
He acknowledged the potential of young Evan Ferguson but feels it’s unfair to place too much expectation on him.
Browne, who has 37 caps, believes the real issue is not a lack of leaders but a shortage of quality in the attacking areas.
