British Athlete Pozzi Retires from Athletics Due to Ankle Injury.

British sprint hurdler Andrew Pozzi has announced his retirement from athletics "with great sadness" after suffering "a serious ankle fracture."

British Athletics announced that 32-year-old sprint hurdler Andrew Pozzi, who was poised to be selected for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, has opted out of the games "following the outcome of detailed scans and tests" on a serious ankle fracture.

Pozzi's career highlights include winning the World Indoor 60m hurdles title in Birmingham in 2018 and the European indoor 60m title in 2017.

He expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, "After missing the 2023 season due to serious injury, I fought hard to return to the world stage and earned my place at what would have been my fourth Olympic Games."

"Unfortunately," he continued, "during training after improving upon my 13.23s clocking in Montgeron, I suffered another serious ankle fracture."

Reflecting on his career, Pozzi acknowledged that injury had been his "greatest competitor" and expressed pride in his resilience and achievements despite setbacks.

Andrew Pozzi, whose best time in the 110m hurdles was 13.14s, proudly represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at three Olympics: London 2012, Rio 2016, and the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021.

"I have decided that now is the right time for me to retire from professional athletics," Pozzi announced.

"This is a profoundly sad moment, but also one that I can embrace fully with the knowledge that I have approached every minute of my time in this sport with uncompromising focus, resolute determination, and the highest of standards."
