Borges Upsets Nadal to Win Swedish Open Title.

World number 51 Nuno Borges stunned Rafael Nadal with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory to claim the Swedish Open title in Bastad.

Spaniard Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, suffered a surprising loss to Nuno Borges in the Swedish Open final, falling 6-3, 6-2.

This was Nadal's first final since 2022 and marked a tough setback as he continues to recover from injuries.

At 38 and ranked 261, Nadal chose to skip Wimbledon to focus on the Olympics.

In contrast, Portuguese player Borges, competing in his first ATP final compared to Nadal’s 131st, took the first set in 46 minutes and won three consecutive games in the second set to clinch the title.

"It's crazy," said the 27-year-old Borges. "Part of me wanted Rafa to win, but something inside me pushed me to victory. I’ve been dreaming of this moment for a while and am overwhelmed with emotion."

As the Olympic tennis tournament approaches in Paris on July 27, Nadal has stated that winning at Roland Garros, where he has claimed 14 French Open titles, remains his top goal for the year.
