US Open finalist Jessica Pegula has been eliminated from the China Open after losing to Spain's Paula Badosa in the round of 16.
The American world number three, seeded second in Beijing, faced a surprising exit after falling to Spain's Paula Badosa, with a score of 6-4, 6-0 in just over an hour.
Badosa started the match on shaky ground, going down 3-1 in the first set after an early break. However, she rallied impressively, winning 11 of the next 12 games—including a stunning eight in a row—to clinch her first victory over a top-five player since 2022.
"I really don’t want to face her again," Badosa admitted, highlighting the challenge that Pegula poses.
