Australian Open 2024: Alfie Hewett Advances to Wheelchair Singles Final, Gordon Reid Falls Short.

Alfie Hewett makes it to the wheelchair singles final at the Australian Open, while Gordon Reid misses a chance to face his doubles partner, Tokito Oda from Japan.

Defending champion Alfie Hewett, an eight-time Grand Slam singles winner, secured a spot in the Australian Open wheelchair singles final by defeating Belgium's Joachim Gerard 6-4, 6-1.

However, the 2016 champion Gordon Reid faced a tough match and lost 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to 17-year-old Tokito Oda from Japan.

Their doubles semi-final against Japanese pair Daisuke Arai and Takashi Sanada got postponed due to rain.

Meanwhile, Andy Lapthorne and his American teammate David Wagner had their quad wheelchair doubles semi-final rescheduled to Friday.

Hewett faced an early setback in the first set but rallied to win 12 of the next 16 games, breaking Gerard twice to secure the first set. The second set was more straightforward, with Hewett winning 5-0 and ultimately securing victory, maintaining his bid for consecutive Australian Open titles.
