Outstanding all-round performances from Georgia Wareham and Ashleigh Gardner propelled Australia to a 3-0 series sweep over New Zealand, clinching the final T20I in Brisbane with a six-wicket victory.
This match also marked New Zealand’s tenth consecutive loss in T20I cricket.
Wareham took 2 wickets for 21 runs with her legspin, helping limit New Zealand to 146 for 6 after Georgia Plimmer's maiden T20I half-century had given the visitors a solid start.
Promoted to No. 3, a potential strategy for the T20 World Cup, Wareham scored 26 off 16 balls, relieving the run-rate pressure.
Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner then added a crucial 61-run partnership, bringing Australia close to victory with Perry scoring 36 and Gardner 33. Two late mistakes by the pair, which led to their dismissals, were the only setbacks in an otherwise steady innings.
Tahlia McGrath and Phoebe Litchfield finished the chase, though they benefited from Fran Jonas dropping an easy catch off Litchfield.
Gardner, like Player of the Match Wareham, bowled effectively, taking 1 for 27 after her impressive 3 for 16 in the second T20I, earning her the Player of the Series title.
New Zealand was in a good position at 118 for 1 in the 17th over, thanks to Plimmer's 50 off 47 balls and Amelia Kerr’s 40 off 36 in a 73-run second-wicket partnership. However, their dismissals to Wareham and Gardner triggered a collapse, with New Zealand losing 5 wickets for just 28 runs in the last 22 balls, including two wickets for Annabel Sutherland in one over.
Maddy Green, playing her 100th T20I, scored 12 not out off five balls, ensuring they surpassed 140, but it was never enough.
