Approval to use five substitutes permanently: Soccer Rules Board

The Soccer Rules Body declared that five substitutes would be permanently introduced for all top-level matches.

Along with that the body is going to introduce a semi-automated offside detector, to be used at this year's World Cup to reduce the scope of controversy by making offside calls in top games.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the change to more substitutes, which was first allowed in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, followed

"strong support from the entire football community".

FIFA referee chief Pierluigi Collina is quite confident about the introduction of the 3D offside detector machine. He paid his full support for the machine and proposed to install the 3D offside detector in time for the 32-nation tournament.

Tests were carried out at the FIFA Arab Cup last year and Club World Cup this year.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in a conference that "We are very satisfied so far and our experts are looking into it before deciding whether it will be introduced for the World Cup."
