Amanda Serrano retained her featherweight title against Danila Ramos in a historic contest.

Amanda Serrano defeated Danila Ramos and retained her WBO, WBA and, IBF world featherweight titles on a historic day for women's boxing.

Serrano outclassed Danila Ramos via unanimous decision (120-108, 120-108, 120-108) to retain her title in the first women's world title fight held over 12, three-minute rounds since 2007.

Women's bouts are usually contested over 10 two-minute rounds, but after going the full 36-minute distance, the seven-weight champion said she "really couldn't feel the difference".

“I went through the whole fight and I still have the energy to hold all my belts,” said Serrano, who won all 12 rounds.

“This was a historic night. I hope it’s just the beginning because I know there are a lot of women coming after me. I know the future is bright for us”.

Serrano threw an incredible 1103 punches en route to victory while Laila Ali, Holly Holm and Christy Martin were in attendance.

The win sets up perfectly a rematch with Katie Taylor if the Bray fighter can get past Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena next month.

Taylor suffered her first professional defeat earlier this year when facing Cameron in her homecoming bout and looks to avenge her defeat.
