Twenty-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer is absent due to knee surgery

Five-time European champions Barcelona lost to Bayern Munich out of the Champions League for the first time in 17 years. This is the first time since 2003–04. Barca had to equal Benfica's result to advance, but the Portuguese side won 2–0 at home to Dynamo Kiev, third to Xavi's men and suffered a Europa League knockout round play-off.

Cricket

Ashes: England v Australia, Day 2 of the first Test Broad, England's second-highest Test wicket-taker, was dropped. Australia were "shocked" by captain Pat Cummins that England dropped bowler Stuart Broad for the first Ashes Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. "I thought at least one would play in every game, if not both," Cummins said.

Cricket

Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the ODI captain of India, ending the five-year reign of Virat Kohli. The BCCI said in its statement that the selectors "decided" that Rohit should take the responsibility of "going ahead" of the ODI and T20I teams. Rohit will also take over as the Test vice-captain in place of Ajinkya Rahane.

Hero World Challenge: Victor Hovland won the Bahamas after scoring 66 runs. Victor Hovland said after the win "I didn't think a win was going to be very appreciable, but I know this golf course is tough,"

Moto Racing

The Peterborough Panthers have re-signed their six-title winning team for the 2022 campaign. Captain Scott Nichols, Ulrich Ostergaard, Hans Anderson, Michael Pam Toft, Chris Harris and young Jordan Palin will all return. Bjarne Pedersen is the only one who has retired and will be replaced by Danish rider Ben Basso.

Auto Racing

Lewis Hamilton defeated Max Verstappen at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to set up a winner-take-all title final in Abu Dhabi. In the most dramatic Grand Prix in years, the race was halted twice, with three starts and an extraordinary series of events between the title contenders.
