Sri Lanka clinched victory over UAE despite Karthik Meiyappan's hat-trick at the T20 World Cup.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) suffered a shocking 79 runs defeat against Sri Lanka at the ICC T20 World Cup despite Karthik Meiyappan's hat-trick.

Batting first, the Sri Lankan's posted 152 runs losing 8 wickets in the stipulated overs. Pathum Nissanka knocked stunning 74 runs which helped his team to post this competitive score for UAE. The Lankan's were aiming to put up a massive score, but spin bowler Meiyappan derailed their plans in the 15th over, removing Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka and skipper Dasun Shanaka in successive balls.

In reply, Sri Lankan's bowlers produced breath taking performance and restricted the UAE batting lineup within 73 runs in 17.1 overs.

UAE's Karthik Meiyappan made history and became the first player to claim a hat-trick for UAE in T20Is. It was also the first hat-trick of the tournament.

He became the fifth player to achieve the feat in T20 World Cup history, joining a list including Brett Lee, Curtis Campher, Wanindu Hasaranga and Kagiso Rabada.

Sri Lanka, the 2014 champions, will now face the unbeaten Netherlands next, needing another win, while Namibia will take on the winless UAE.
