Paris Paralympics 2024: Landmine Blast Survivor Hokato Sema Claims Bronze in Shot Put.

Indian shot-putter Hokato Sema, a landmine blast survivor, achieved his career-best throw of 14.65 meters to win a bronze medal in the men’s F57 category final at the Paralympic Games on Friday.

The 40-year-old Hokato Sema, from Dimapur, who previously won bronze at the Hangzhou Para Games, began with a throw of 13.88 meters. 

He then improved significantly, reaching 14 meters on his second attempt and later throwing 14.40 meters. He is the only athlete from Nagaland competing at the Paris Paralympics.

Sema delivered his best performance on his fourth throw, exceeding his previous personal best of 14.49 meters to secure the bronze medal.

Indian competitor Rana Soman, who won silver at the Hangzhou Para Games, finished fifth with a throw of 14.07 meters.

The F57 category is for athletes with limited movement in one leg, moderate movement issues in both feet, or missing limbs. These athletes must make up for uneven leg strength with their full upper body power.
