Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman aims to channel the emotion of playing against England but emphasizes that he will approach Saturday’s Nations League match with a “smart head.”
At 35, veteran Irish captain Seamus Coleman is set to lead his team against England in a competitive match for the first time this weekend.
Though he missed the Republic of Ireland's 3-0 friendly loss at Wembley in 2020, he played in a 1-1 draw there in 2013 and a goalless draw in Dublin in 2015.
“You can definitely tap into the emotion of the occasion,” Coleman said, “but that’s true whenever you wear the green jersey for Ireland.” He is also poised to earn his 73rd cap.
