Lionel Messi says this year's World Cup in Qatar will be his last World Cup.

Argentina legend Lionel Messi confirmed on October 6 that 2022 World Cup in Qatar will "surely" be the last World Cup of his career.

Lionel Messi made his international debut in 2005 and since then he has won 164 caps for Argentina and has become his country's all-time record scorer with 90 goals.

Lionel Messi has featured in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups. Messi will play in his fifth and final FIFA World Cup in the 2022 edition.

Messi led Argentina to Copa America Trophy in 2021 after 28 years and the South American giants are one of the favourites to win the Qatar World Cup.

The PSG forward has been in great form this year with both club and country. While Argentina is currently enjoying a 35-game unbeaten streak which started way back in 2019.

Messi has won a record of seven Ballon d'Or awards, six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d'Or Dream Team.

Argentina will begin its 2022 campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22.
