Italian skier and a three-time Winter Olympian in alpine skiing, Elena Fanchini, passed away on Wednesday (8 February) at the
age of 37 after a battle with cancer.
Fanchini competed at three Winter Olympics and six World Championships for Italy, winning a silver medal in the downhill at 2005
World Championships.
She last raced in December 2017, stepping away from the sport when she was diagnosed with a tumor. Later she took part in the 2018 PyeongChang Games but was forced to withdraw her name after being diagnosed with cancer.
