The leading rusher of the Denver Broncos team, Ronnie Hillman has passed away at the age of 31 due to cancer.
Hillman's family announced that he had been battling a rare form of kidney cancer called renal medullary carcinoma, which mainly affects people with sickle cell trait.
Ronnie Hillman, a dynamic standout at San Diego St. from 2010-2011, Hillman posted eye-popping numbers with 3,243 yards rushing and 36 touchdowns in just two seasons. He was taken in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Broncos and went on to play in the two Super Bowls for the franchise.
Over five seasons with the Broncos, Minnesota Vikings and Chargers, Hillman tallied 494 carries for 1,976 yards, 12 touchdowns and another 534 yards receiving.
Hillman won the Super Bowl with the Broncos in 2016, and was part of another in 2014, which the team lost. The Broncos, former teammates and others have expressed their sympathies upon his death.
Hillman played with the Broncos, Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers from 2012-2016. He also signed with the Dallas Cowboys' offseason in 2017, but was released. Over his career, he rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns.
