Former Italian football legend, Gianluca Vialli has passed away at the age of 58 as he was suffering from critical cancer.

Gianluca Vialli was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 and had undergone radiotherapy and chemotherapy in November 2018.

Vialli began his career at Cremonese, his hometown club, before starring in Serie A for Sampdoria and Juventus, and ended his playing career at Chelsea before going into management and coaching.

During his stellar career, he has scored 16 goals in 59 appearances for Italy and featured in the Azzurri’s 1986 and 1990 World Cup squads.

Working with the Italy squad, Vialli had been reunited with national coach Roberto Mancini. They both  led the Italians to the Euro 2020 tournament in 2021, lifting the trophy in Wembley Stadium where, 29 years earlier, their Sampdoria team had lost the European Cup final to Barcelona.
