The Kohli-Suryakumar combination works for India
The combination of Kohli and Suryakumar, who scored 104 in
10.2 overs, successfully propelled India to a decisive victory against
Australia to clinch the series 2-1. While Kohli is on the road to reviving his
old form after an intervening slump, Suryakumar is at the height of his career.
With precision instincts and vigour, Australia target of 187 proved no match
for the pair, as India came back to reclaim the title after being down 1-0 a
few days back.
Australia’s strategy to slow down Kohli’s run rate with
spinner Adam Zampa, who has previously dismissed him eight times proved
unsuccessful, as Kohli was able to deftly handle all balls. Furthermore,
Suryakumar’s versatile play which made it challenging for the bowler to predict
his various shots, also proved to be in India’s favour. Suryakumar has already
had an impressive year, with a century against England and his splendid
performance at the Asia Cup.
The fearless batting by the duo effectively countered
Australia’s bowling, aided by Kohli’s efficient tackling of spin which also
played a role in his much-celebrated century at the Asia Cup where he took on
Rashid Khan. He has also been training extra-hard, and for longer duration, to
compensate for the slump in his performance in recent times, and it seems to be
paying off.
