Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis Achieves Milestone Alongside Sir Don Bradman.

Kamindu Mendis, Sri Lanka's emerging batting talent, reached an impressive milestone on the second day of the second Test against New Zealand at Galle International Stadium.

Mendis scored an impressive 182 not out off 250 balls. During this innings, the 25-year-old reached 1,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving this milestone in just 13 innings.

By doing so, Mendis has become the third-fastest player in Test history to reach 1,000 runs. He now shares this record with Australian great Sir Don Bradman for the fewest innings taken to reach this landmark.

Mendis and Bradman now trail only Herbert Sutcliffe and Sir Everton Weekes for the fastest to 1,000 runs in Test cricket.

When Mendis surpassed fifty in his innings, he set a new world record by scoring his eighth consecutive fifty since his debut.

Making his Test debut against Australia in 2022, Mendis is currently the leading batter for most Test centuries in 2024, with five to his name, one more than former England captain Joe Root.

Mendis's remarkable century, along with contributions from Dinesh Chandimal (116 off 208 balls) and Kusal Mendis (106 not out off 149 balls), helped Sri Lanka achieve a massive total of 602/5 declared.

Sri Lanka also won the first Test by 63 runs.
