In the opening encounter, GB's Katie Boulter suffered a shocking defeat by 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2) against France's Caroline Garcia.

Later in the second clash, France's Alize Cornet displayed a dominating performance and cruised past GB's Harriet Dart by  7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-3) and extended her team's lead by 2-0 against Great Britain in the BJK Cup qualifier.
