Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer suffers a 'small heart attack' while competing at the Sheffield Half marathon.

Former Leeds United midfielder and England international Carlton Palmer has revealed in the media that he suffered a 'small heart attack' while competing at the Sheffield Half marathon on Sunday.

The 57-year-old, Carlton Palmer has made 132 appearances for the Whites over three seasons from 1994 until 1997, was preparing to fly to Portugal before the medical emergency happened and he was rushed to hospital.

Carlton Palmer was running for a number of charities at the event in South Yorkshire but complained that his "heart played up" in the first mile of the 13-mile course. 

However, Palmer went to hospital after the race where he underwent tests and observations.
