England have left out batter Dan Lawrence from their Pakistan tour and added newcomers Jordan Cox and Brydon Carse to the 17-man squad.
Captain Ben Stokes will return for the October Tests against Pakistan after missing the Sri Lanka series due to a hamstring injury. Opener Zak Crawley also rejoins the squad, having been sidelined with a broken finger.
In Crawley’s absence, Dan Lawrence filled in as an opener but struggled, with his best score being 35 in a losing effort in the final Test against Sri Lanka.
Essex’s 23-year-old Jordan Cox, who was an unused squad member during the Sri Lanka series, will provide batting and wicketkeeping cover. He is set to make his T20 international debut against Australia on Tuesday.
Durham’s 29-year-old Brydon Carse, who has already played 14 one-day internationals and three T20s, is also included in the squad.
