Edwin van der Sar has stepped down from his as Ajax's chief executive after seven years spell.

Ajax has officially confirmed that their chief executive officer, Edwin van der Sar has stepped down from his role after a disastrous campaign.

The Dutch giants missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 14 years after their worst league season since 2009 during the 2022-23 campaign.

Ajax failed to win a trophy and finished 13 points behind champions Feyenoord.

Van der Sar has been part of Ajax’s board for the last 11 years and he’s been in the role of chief executive for the last seven years.

Van der Sar has been part of Ajax’s board of directors since November 2012, having retired from playing the previous year.

He was initially the club’s director of marketing and had held the role of chief executive since 2016.

Ajax won three Eredivisie titles and reached the Champions League semi-finals during Van der Sar’s time as chief executive.
